May Owlcrate Review

Oliver desperately wanted to be in the picture, and why shouldn’t he be? He’s adorable!

Forget everything I said last month about not being sure that I would continue my subscription to Owlcrate. I had a moment of weakness and doubt that this month’s box swiftly cured. This was the best box ever!

The theme this month is steampunk, another favorite genre of mine. After being disappointed with the April dystopia box, I braced myself waiting for my May box to arrive. Owlcrate more than delivered, a testament to me that they’re getting better and better.

IMG_2385The book this month has been sitting on my to-read list. Everland by Wendy Spinale is a reimagination of of Peter Pen. After a disease sweeps through London, the only survivors are children, including Gwen Darling and her younger sisters. When one of her sisters are taken captive by Captain Hook, Gwen joins forces with a boy name Pete and his gang of Lost Boys.

Sounds interesting, right? The author was also kind enough to include an exclusive note to Owlcrate subscribers and Everland-themed temporary tattoos.

And in essence, the box was both Steampunk and Peter Pan themed. These are a few of my favorite things.

I’ll start with the two things in the box I didn’t care for. The first was a ring inspired by The Infernal Devices trilogy from Sparks Emporium. The ring was cute enough, but I simply don’t like to wear rings so I gave it to my sister. The second item was steampunk themed nail wraps, which were actually super awesome looking, from Espionage Cosmetics. I gifted these to my sisters as well as again I just prefer my nails to be plain. These items were well-made and cool, but not for me. My sister, on the other hand, was more than happy to take them from me.

What I did love in the box was this exclusive skeleton key necklace from Crystal Compass. IMG_2386I will have to check them out further because I adore this pendant. It’s well made and the key on the end is nice and big.

IMG_2384The box also included this metal skeleton key pin from Elope. Elope is a wonderful company I’ve used before for their steampunk costumes and accessories. I usually buy their products via Amazon. Apparently, Owlcrate sent out five of their pieces. I’m not sure which other ones were sent, but the skeleton key pin was the one I received, and I’m extremely happy with it.

Last but certainly not least, this minimalist art print tribute from Creative Daffodil studios. I love it so much! So much so that I plan on framing it when I get a chance. It is a lovely tribute to the beloved J.M. Barrie.

      1. Ha! 🙂 I do like the new name. He’s a cutie. My youngest is almost 2 — cute as all get out — helps to make up for the behavior issues. 😛
